Google Course Design for Coursera

The Challenge

Google approached our team to help them create over 100 interactive certification courses for the Coursera online learning platform. Coursera is a massive, open online course provider founded by Stanford University computer science professors in 2012.

Our team worked closely with both the Google team and Coursera team to ideate, prototype and engineer learning courses with a cohesive visual language.

Design Systems

Using Google's Interface patterns as a starting point, our team created a visual design system that accounted for accessibility and ease-of-use. We broadened the system to include high-contrast colors and inclusive type styles.

Illustrations

Apart from the ambitious UX undertaking of creating hundreds of unique learning courses, we were tasked with developing an illustration library to supplement the content.

These illustrations were designed to be inclusive in terms of portraying people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, gender identities, body types and levels of physical ableness.

Final Design

With a timeline of almost 2 years, this project tested the full capabilities of our team. Collaboration was essential for establishing a workflow that accounted for alignment across multi-functional teams, ambitious deadlines and implementation of user feedback to refine our designs.
